The official residence of the British Prime Minister in Westminster, London. No 10 Downing Street is possibly the most photographed and famous front door of any politician in the western world.
The building is over 300 years old and contains around 100 rooms. The land on which Downiing Street stands was originally bought in 1654 by Sir George Downing, the notorious spy for Oliver Cromwell. He intended that town-houses on this street be built 'for persons of good qaulity of inhabit...'. In 1732 three buildings were offered to Sir Robert Walpole who commissioned William Kent to join them together to become No. 10 Downing Street.
